Glass Beach Tours
Marvel at the sparkling colors of glass glinting here and there in the sand on our Glass Beach tours. In addition to the colorful bits of glass, you can explore tidepools and watch tiny fish, shrimp, and shellfish move among the clumps of kelp. You might even get to watch sea lions sunbathing nearby.
A popular tourist destination, where you’re just as likely to hear French, German, or Italian spoken as English, Glass Beach is located in the city of Fort Bragg, California, south of MacKerricher State Park.
Local History
100 or so years ago Glass Beach was where Mendocino Coast locals threw out old glass bottles, jars, and pottery they no longer needed. Over the years, wind and ocean waves broke up the bottles and smoothed the pieces of glass ’till they became the red, yellow, green, blue, and white jewel-like pebbles we see today.
