Notice for Lost Coast Backpackers

Plan to arrive early! We’ve been seeing lots of detours and road construction delays on the roads leading into the King Range Wilderness area. Allow plenty of extra time to get to your pickup location on time.

You will see our Sprinter van parked in the lot at your pickup location. As a courtesy to the other kkers riding on your shuttle, please be punctual. Your driver will wait for late arrivals no longer than 15 minutes past the scheduled departure time. Don’t risk being left behind!

We schedule most of our pickups so you can get past Punta Gorda when the tide is out. Depending on the tides, we may have some leeway on the departure time.

There are three sections of the hike impacted by high tides. Backpackers must plan their hike to pass these sections at low tide. Consult the tide chart for Shelter Cove:

For additional backpacker information, we highly recommend contacting the BLM Ranger Station:

Please note that hikers are responsible for obtaining bear canisters and overnight hiking permits for the Lost Coast (required via the Recreation.gov online reservation system: https://www.recreation.gov/permits/King_Range_Wilderness_Permits_Lost_Coast/r/wildernessAreaDetails.do?page=detail&contractCode=NRSO&parkId=72192).

We are a dog-friendly service. All dogs ride for free on our shuttles.

Motion Sickness

If you know you tend to have motion sickness on windy roads, please prepare accordingly, such as by taking an antiemetic (medicine to prevent vomiting and nausea) before your ride.

In all of our vans, we carry ginger chews to help with that woozy feeling and barf bags for those inevitable situations.

We reserve the right to bill our customers for “accidents” that cost us extra for cleaning because a member of your party threw up, urinated, defecated, or otherwise soiled the interior of one of our vans beyond that of normal passenger usage.
